Wellington, New Zealand – In a significant diplomatic gesture, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim, presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Right Honorable Dame Cindy Kiro GNZM, QSO, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand. Following the presentation Ambassador Karim now officially assumed the role of non-resident High Commissioner to New Zealand. The formal ceremony took place at the prestigious Government House in Wellington.
Dr. Karim, who is also accredited to ten other countries, conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from His Excellency, the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and New Zealand.
Upon receiving the credentials, Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro warmly welcomed Dr. Karim and expressed her hopes for a successful tenure as High Commissioner to New Zealand. She acknowledged the potential for fruitful collaboration between the two nations across various sectors.
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including high-ranking government officials, traditional leaders, media representatives, and staff from the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Beijing. Dr. Karim was received with a guard of honour by the New Zealand Defence Force, adding a ceremonial grandeur to the occasion.
After the formalities, Dr. Karim signed the Guest Book at the President’s Residence, marking the official beginning of his diplomatic duties in New Zealand. He also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Alfredo Perez Bravo, Ambassador of Mexico and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, further reinforcing his commitment to diplomatic engagement and cooperation.
This event underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international relations and highlights the role of Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim in advancing the country’s interests on the global stage.
