In a heartfelt gesture of compassion and support, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Abubakarr Karim, the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, has officially handed over the sum of thirteen thousand seven hundred dollars to the grieving family of Ibrahim Dainkeh. The late student, who was enrolled at the China University of Petroleum in Beijing, tragically passed away last year.
The emotional handover ceremony took place in Freetown, in the presence of the Dainkeh family, alongside key officials including Alan C.E. Logan, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and George A. Dambo, Students Secretary at the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education. This gathering aimed to honor the memory of Ibrahim Dainkeh while providing much-needed support to his family during this difficult time.
The financial support was made possible following a request from the Sierra Leone Embassy in China, which sought to secure health insurance for the late student’s family in light of his untimely passing. This commitment underscores the Embassy’s dedication to its citizens studying abroad and highlights the importance of being prepared for unexpected challenges.
During the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Abubakarr Karim expressed his deep condolences to the Dainkeh family. In a statement, he remarked, “We stand by your side in these trying times, and it is our hope that this assistance will provide some solace. Ibrahim’s contributions and potential will not be forgotten.”
Alan C.E. Logan, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, added, “This gesture not only signifies our support for the Dainkeh family but also reinforces the bond between our nation and its citizens overseas. We are committed to ensuring that our students are safeguarded during their studies.”
George A. Dambo, echoing these sentiments, emphasized the collective responsibility to uplift and support families of students who face adversity abroad. Ibrahim S. Kamara, also present at the ceremony, reiterated the community’s commitment to continue honoring the legacy of Ibrahim Dainkeh and ensuring that no student feels alone.
The ceremony concluded with heartfelt words from the Dainkeh family, who expressed their gratitude for the support and compassion shown by the Embassy and government officials. While the loss of Ibrahim Dainkeh remains a tragedy, the provision of financial assistance stands as a testament to the strong ties and sense of duty that characterizes the Sierra Leonean community, both at home and abroad.
As the family begins to navigate this challenging chapter, the support from the Sierra Leone Embassy in China serves as a reminder that the bonds of love and solidarity endure beyond borders.
