Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Beijing that China-Africa relations will usher in a series of new developments this year.
At 10 a.m. on March 8, the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress held a press conference in the press briefing room of the Mediya Center, inviting Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to answer questions from Chinese and foreign journalists on issues related to “China’s foreign policy and foreign relations.
On that day, the Fourth Session of the 14th National People’s Congress invited Wang Yi to answer questions from Chinese and foreign journalists on issues related to China’s foreign policy and foreign relations. A reporter asked that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between China and Africa and is also a year of people-to-people exchanges between Chinaand Africa. What new developments and highlights will China-Africa relations bring in this special year?
Wang Yi said that over the past 70 years, China-Africa friendship has stood the test of the international landscape and shown strong vitality. China’s foreign minister has insisted that his first visit to Africa must be made in the new year. This practice has been adhered to for 36 years. It has always been a spirit and a belief in China’s diplomacy.
“When I visited Ethiopia earlier this year, people recalled the moving scenes of Premier Zhou Enlai’s visit to Africa that year.” Wang Yi said that when he arrived in Tanzania, the good story of China’s assistance in building the Tanzan railway is still widely shared, and many young Chinese engineers have laid down their precious lives for it and lie on that land. It can be said that Sino-African friendship was passed down from generation to generation by heart for heart, and dried out with blood and sweat.
Wang Yi pointed out that this year China-Africa relations will usher in a series of new developments, and suggested focusing on three aspects. First, China and Africa will take new steps in building a community with a shared future. China will host a number of African leaders in 2026, strengthen mutual support as an all-weather partner, and write a new story of shared future. Second, China will fully implement zero tariffs on non-100% tax items on May 1. Third, the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange” has begun, and nearly 600 interesting exchange activities will be held during the year.
